Carol here.

Susan was admitted to Kaiser on Friday to receive her antibiotic treatment.  She is receiving anti-nausea medication to combat the side effects of the antibiotics, which makes her very drowsy.  There was difficulty getting an IV in because of her tiny, fragile veins; after six tries, they were able to successfully use a baby sized IV, which is holding up so far.  Yesterday, two attempts were made to insert a PICC line, but both failed, and she’ll go down to Interventional Radiology to have one put in.

Not yet sure on how long she’ll be in, but the RN care coordinator says it’s possible she’ll go home somewhat soon and receive the rest of her antibiotics there, with a home care nurse coming by as needed.   Will update again soon.
